Bandhavgarh National Park
The erstwhile Rajas of Rewa state ruled over Bandhavgarh National Park and conserved it as their Royal Hunting Grounds. The pictursque wildlife resort is the best place to see the Bengal tiger in the wild. It was declared a National Park in 1968 amd presently enjoys the status of a tiger reserve. .
The famous and rare white tigers of Rewa
were found by a hunting party in nearby forests. Though no white tiger has been seen again, they have bred well in zoos all over the Globe.
Bandhavgarh
is a tiger conservation center and inhabited by Central Indian mammal species. Prime attraction are tiger, leopard, wild dog, bison, sambar, sloth bear, Nilgai and many other life forms.
The forest comprises of moist dry deciduous flora with Sal domination. Interspresed in between are mixed forest, grasslands and bamboo. The area is rich biodiversity conservation zone and amazing herbs and shrubs can be seen growing here.
The fauna comprises of animals mentioned above and langurs, rehsus macaque, spotted deer, chuasingha, barking deer, hyena, wolf, jackal, foax and many mocturnal animals.
The preserve is home to large species of reptiles including the cobra, krait, viper, grass snake, rat snake, bronze tree snake and many more. Bandhavgarh is a birding with more than two hundred fifty avain species found here. The major attractions are Malabar Pied Hornbill, Asian Paradise flycatcher, Crest Serpent Eagle, Pallas Fish Eagle, Changeable Hawk Eagle and more.
Park Tips
Elephant back rides are available but limited to tiger show, long rides if available are very costly. For the Bandhavgarh safaris jeeps are the best they can easily negotiate hilly terrain and coarse steep climbs. Trekking is not allowed inside the park. The visit to the Fort requires permission from the park director. The jeep on safari can go upto Sesh Shaiyya.
